Use Sleep Mode to Save Money

Leave Your PC Running? Put It to Sleep and Save Cash When it's time to turn in for the night, what do you do with your PC? Turn it off? Leave it running? Put it in standby (aka sleep) mode? There are different schools of thought on which is best. For example, some feel that the startup and shutdown processes create extra wear and tear, and therefore opt to leave their machines running 24/7. According to a study, which recently completed some research on the subject, sleep mode wins the day (make that night). Their findings: 1. When you put your PC to sleep at night instead of leaving it running, you save $2 per month. 2. When you put your PC to sleep at night instead of turning it off, you save at least 25 minutes per month (in startup and shutdown time, I'm guessing), while spending only an extra five cents monthly. (When your computer is in standby, it continues to draw a bit of power. In hibernate, however, it's effectively off.) In any case, I think there&#

Things You Need to Know About Safe Mode

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you're using. If an existing problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes. If you don't know the cause of the problem, you can use the process of elimination to help you find the problem. Try starting all of the programs you commonly use, including the programs in your Startup folder, one by one to see if a program might be the cause of the problem. If your computer automatically starts in safe mode without prompting, a problem with your computer might be preventing Windows from starting normally. If you think the cause of the problem might be a recently installed program or device, try using Recovery in Control Pa

How To Fix Flash Player Crashes in Google Chrome?

For the past few days, ever since I updated my Google Chrome, I was encountering frequent Flash Player crashed every time I used to forward videos on YouTube. At first I thought that it was a temporary issue, but when the problem became persistent, it really got very annoying. A simple page refresh used to solve the problem, but I was looking for a permanent fix and I got to the root of the problem after thorough investigation. What Caused the Problem? The problem was the conflict between the Flash installation that’s bundled with Chrome and the one that was already installed on my computer. Whenever I used to forward a video, Chrome used to get confused as to which Flash installation it should call to buffer the remaining video which caused the entire Shockwave player plugin to crash. These types of crashes are not found in browsers like Firefox or Opera because those are not shipped with their separate flash installation, rather they use the system’s default flash.

Speed Up PC Performance with One Simple “Trick”

There is a very good simple way to improve PC speed when your computer is running slow. It won’t fix every problem of a slow working computer, but it will help improve things about 80% of the time. Best of all, it doesn’t take much time, won’t cost you any money, and can easily be done by the most un-technical person on the planet! All you have to do is simply turn off your PC! That’s it. Just restart your computer for a faster PC! This won’t fix every problem you have, of course. But starting off with a fresh Windows session will usually help your computer run faster. One reason is because many programs leave processes working in the background even after you have stopped using them (and theoretically shut them down). You can also save a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on your hardware this way. Over time, letting your computer run for 8+ hours when it’s not in use, can really take a toll on your hardware. This can slow your computer down needlessly. You can literall

How to Fix Browser Settings Changed By Malware or Other Programs?

Malware, adware, and pushy software installers all love changing your browser settings, giving you new home pages, default search engines, and obnoxious toolbars. It’s easy to forget to uncheck these options while installing software. Reverting browser settings changes typically isn’t too difficult. However, you often have to do it by hand — even if it’s a legitimate program, uninstalling it probably won’t restore your preferred home page and default search engine. Search Engine If a program manages to change your browser’s default search engine, a different search engine will appear when you use your browser’s built-in search features — the search bar or right-click search, for example. You can change your search engine back easily: Internet Explorer: Click the gear button, select Manage add-ons, and select the Search Providers category. Choose your preferred search provider from the lit and click the Set as default button at the bottom of the window. You may also want to enable the “

Desktop Computer Tips

Every single day, desktop computers are used for both personal and professional reasons. Like many others, however, you may not feel you know enough about these incredible devices. Fear not, because this article will surely change that. If you are concerned with your computer's speed, then start things off with a boot check. You will be able to find this information in the start menu. From here, examine which programs are loading when the computer boots. If there are programs listed that you don't use, set them so they don't automatically start. This makes it so your computer runs faster. Try to purchase an affordable desktop computer that has the minimum features you need. Some people purchase models with features they will never use at a price that is more than they can afford. Be selective with the components and features to save some cash. Carefully choose your products when building a desktop yourself. Certain processors are compatible with only certain motherboards. S

How to Keep Your Computer Safety

There are so many viruses, spyware and malware infections on the internet so that it is hard to feel safe. Many people think that they are protected if they have any antivirus software on their computer, but that is only part of keeping your PC safe. To make your computer truly safety and keep those identity thieves at bay, read on for some lesser-known tips. First of all, you need to make sure that your antivirus software is up to date. This includes making sure that all virus definitions are downloaded on your computer. In addition, if you have a paid antivirus software subscription, it usually lasts around one year. If the subscription expires, it won’t protect your computer any more. Make sure to clean up your hard drive regularly This is why your computers are slow due to there are too much files. You can use Wise Disk Cleaner  to clean the junks of browsers, remove junk and useless files of windows and defragment your disk. Remove programs that are us

Best free System Cleaner for Windows

Wise Disk Cleaner divides cleanup tasks into three tabs in the main interface. Common Cleaner displays a list of locations and components that you can scan with it. While it does include several key locations, like Internet caches or some popular applications, it lacks support for many "other applications" that apps such as CCleaner or SlimCleaner ship with. It is however possible to add custom folders under Settings > General. While this is limited to folders, it offers an excellent option to customize the cleanup operation. The advanced cleaner scans for temporary files on system hard drives that you specify, while the Slimming System module suggests Windows programs and features for removal that you may not need. Tip: left-click on any result to display all the files marked for deletion.     A portable version is available directly on the developer website.     Custom cleanup locations are supported.     Files can be deleted securely

How To Clean The Windows Registry

The Windows Registry is a database/storage area for the operating system that is used to centralize settings and data for Windows itself, but also for countless apps that choose to use it (the alternative is a local settings file). It was created for Windows 3.1 and doesn’t always reflect how apps are being used today. As a result, it is quite common to see computers with a bloated Windows Registry. This would result in slower computers because the more information there is, the longer it takes to find information. There are solutions to clean-up and defragment the Windows Registry to avoid wasting performance and disk space, and to make your computer faster. In this article, we will show you how to do it in a matter of clicks. Warning: Before changing anything in the registry or even using an application for cleaning the registry, it is recommended you backup the registry. Deleting any sensitive entry can lead to damaging your Windows. Using Wise Registry Cleaner Download Wi

Wise Disk Cleaner Free

Running low on disk space--but don't want to delete songs from your precious music collection? Wise Disk Cleaner 4 trolls your computer for files you won't miss, such as temporary and index files. When started, a wizard prompts the user to modify the filters used to select files for deletion. This is what differentiates Wise Disk Cleaner from others: Instead of cleaning only preprogrammed folders, it scans your whole hard drive and deletes files by their extensions, finding files that other cleaners may miss. After a few minutes scanning on my Vista laptop, it promised to remove a whopping 12 GB of data, almost 10% of the hard drive. It seems scary at first to delete such a large amount of information, but there is a handy option to remove files to the Recycle Bin first so they can be restored in case of computer breakdown. Alternatively, you can set the program to be more selective and delete fewer files. Despite its promises Wise Disk Cleaner was able to remove only about

Wise Disk Cleaner or CCleaner

Wise Disk Cleaner is the only one I know that removes Windows update left-overs and other Windows junk (Slim Down System). It's also way faster than CCleaner with CCEnhancer. That's why I use CCleaner once a week only, cleaning everything plus the browser cache and cookies and Wise Disk Cleaner every day at the end of the session but not cleaning the browser cache and cookies (you don't want to do that every day). So the true power of Wise Disk Cleaner lies in the user personalized settings. For instance if you use Photoscape, the popular photo editor, you must have noticed that this program creates it's own thumbnail format which is named "photothumb.db". Well these files will pile up on your computer and you might want to clean them sometime. Easy: just go to the Advanced Cleaning settings of Wise Disk Cleaner and add this type of file: photothumb.db. The next time you scan your drives Wise Disk Cleaner will look for these files and will delete
