How to Uninstall IE11 From Windows 10

Image
The Microsoft Windows 10 update forces Internet Explorer 11 to your system. Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent this from happening if you use Windows 10. If you are experiencing problems visiting websites or web-applications in IE11 because of compatibility issues, utilize the Compatibility View feature in IE. If you don’t want IE11 on your system at all, you can uninstall it. Be aware that you cannot use IE10 on Windows 10 though. There is no way to make IE10 or lower versions work on Windows 10. To uninstall IE11, follow these steps. Open “ Control Panel “. Select “ Programs “. Select “ Turn Windows features on or off “. Uncheck “ Internet Explorer 11 “, then click “ OK “. Select “ Yes ” on the warning about Turning off Internet Explorer 11. The removal process will start after these steps and you will be prompted to restart the computer. Once restarted, there will be no versions of Internet Explorer installed on the system. If you ever decide you want IE 11

How to Backup and Restore the Windows Registry

Image
You can absolutely make a whole copy of the registry as a .reg file by exporting from the root node. Right-click, and export. The resulting file will be enormously gigantic, and you probably don’t want to open it up in Notepad. If you double-click on the registry file, you’ll see an error message letting you know that not all of the entries were restored because some of the keys are open by the system, etc. And that’s the problem with this method of backing up the registry — it doesn’t work all that well for serious changes like installing applications or something else where you might really need to restore the whole registry. You also really don’t want to keep this type of full registry backup around for a long time, because there’s no way to know what changes are stored in that registry file and whether or not they are going to break something when you restore it. Luckily there’s a better way to backup the registry, and it won’t break your PC.

Definition of Windows Temporary Files

A Windows temporary file is created under the following three circumstances:   Windows Desktop applications, such as Write, and multiple document interface (MDI) applications, such as Excel, create temporary files to handle necessary user editing. Because a Desktop application cannot have multiple documents open at once, it must immediately create a temporary file that allows you to undo any editing. MDI applications create temporary files only when necessary (for related editing), rather than for every worksheet that is open. When you run an MS-DOS-based standard application with Windows/286, Windows/286 creates a temporary file (for example, ~PIFCHFA.TMP) so that it can swap to disk to make room for other applications to use memory. When you print from Windows or any Windows-based application with the spooler enabled, Windows creates temporary files on the hard disk. Windows spools the print job to the temporary file and then sends it to the appropriate printer as a background op

Why (Most) Desktop Apps Aren’t Available in the Windows Store

The Windows Store included with Windows 10 could be a one stop shop to find all the software you’re looking for. But it isn’t. A few desktop applications, like Kodi and Evernote, are now available–but most aren’t. The Store primarily offers mobile-style apps like Candy Crush Saga and TripAdvisor–two applications that Microsoft is now bundling with Windows 10–but not the more powerful desktop apps many Windows users depend on. At least the Store isn’t full of fake desktop apps anymore. The Store Only Offers Universal Apps Microsoft decided to only offer universal apps, and not desktop applications, through the Store. The Windows Store only includes apps written for Microsoft’s new “Universal Windows Platform,” or UWP. It’s also sometimes called the “universal application platform,” or UAP. Back in the Windows 8 and 8.1 days, the Store only included those new “Metro apps” or “Modern apps”–which Microsoft actually called “Store apps” in Windows 8.1. Those apps were

How to Turn Off the HomeGroup Service

Image
From this point on, the process becomes more complicated. The next step is to disable the HomeGroup service. This is where you’ll start to see improvements to the core speed of your OS. The Services menu can be a tricky beast — disable or pause the wrong thing, and your machine can quickly start to unravel. To access the services menu, either search for “Services” or go to  Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services . You’ll now see a list of all the services running on your machine. There are two services relating to HomeGroups:  HomeGroup Listener  and  HomeGroup Provider . You need to disable both of them. To disable a service, double-click on the item in question or choose  Properties  from the right-click context menu. In the Properties window, make sure you’re looking at the  General  tab, then select  Disabled  from the drop-down menu next to  Startup Type . Click  Apply  to confirm the changes. Repeat the above steps for both the HomeGroup services

What Is a 500 Internal Server Error and How Do I Fix It?

Image
If you try to visit a website and see a “500 Internal Server Error” message, it means something has gone wrong with the website. This isn’t a problem with your browser, your computer, or your internet connection. It’s a problem with the site you’re trying to visit. What This Error Means This error may appear in a variety of different ways, but they all mean the same thing. Depending on the website, you may see the message  “500 Internal Server Error”, “500 Error”, “HTTP Error 500”, “500. That’s an error”, “Temporary Error (500)”, or just the error code “500”. However you see this displayed, this is an error with HTTP status code 500. The 500 error code is a generic message that appears when something unexpected happened on the web server and the server can’t offer more specific information. Rather than giving you a normal web page, an error occurred on the web server and the server gave your browser a web p

Having Start Menu or Cortana Issues? Use the Start Menu Troubleshooter

Image
The Windows Start Menu returned from the cold in Windows 10 and got a ticker tape parade. Yes, it’s great in its own way — plus, now there’s Cortana to play with and all the colorful tiles above it. But even the best of things can catch bugs. The Start Menu has its own share and you’ve probably run into a few of them yourself. The good news, if you are still not aware of it, is that Microsoft has a dedicated Start Menu troubleshooter for Windows 10 that can automatically fix any such Start Menu problems. Launch the Start Menu Troubleshooter Browse to the Microsoft Support pages. Drill down to the section that says, “Troubleshoot problems opening the Start menu or Cortana”. Try the Start menu troubleshooter by downloading the  startmenu.diagcab file via the link. It takes a second to download the Start Menu troubleshooter. Here’s the first screen. It’s always advisable to check the problems first and then apply the fixes instead of giving the program full-control. So,

Why Would You Want to Block Third-Party Cookies in Every Web Browser?

This means that every time you visit that site, you will still be logged in, which saves you the time and effort of re-entering your password. Third-party cookies are cookies placed on your device by a website other than the one you’re visiting. For example, say you visit a website and their advertiser(s) set a cookie–this allows that advertiser to track your visits to other websites. You probably don’t want this to happen. You should also know that some websites might use third-party cookies that don’t constitute a privacy concern. Disabling these cookies might cause problems.
