How do you change Windows’ default download path?

I would like to keep my drive paths as clean as possible and C:Downloads is much nicer than C:UsersMynameDownloads. How can I stop Windows 10 from using the user name profile location by default? 1. Open Windows Explorer 2. Create the folder you want to have as your new Downloads folder (i.e. C:Downloads) 3. Under This PC, right-click Downloads 4. Click Properties 5. Select the Location Tab 6. Click Move 7. Select the folder you made in Step 2 8. Once it has finished copying everything to the new folder, click OK to close the Properties Window It is not Windows itself that downloads files, but rather its applications like web browsers or other network clients. If you are specifically talking about downloading files from the Internet, your web browser has a setting for the default download location. You can even set it to ask you each time where you want to put a file that you are about to download.

Is Bluetooth Faster than Wi-Fi?

The Bluetooth standard’s maximum data rate is, at best, 3 Mbps or about 2.1 after protocol overheads take their cut. Wi-Fi on the other hand, maxes out anywhere from 54 to 1300+ Mbps depending on whether you have “g”, “n”, or “ac” Wi-Fi plus any enhancements in the adaptors and router support. So no, Bluetooth is not faster than Wi-Fi. Not even vaguely close. Bluetooth version 3 and version 4 have higher data rates, but the actual data transfer in those implementations happens over Wi-Fi; Bluetooth is only used to set up and negotiate the connection. http://www.wisecleaner.com/think-tank/242-Is-Bluetooth-Faster-than-Wi-Fi.html

Should I Leave My Laptop Plugged In All The Time?

When your laptop’s battery is 100% charged, should you leave it plugged in so any battery power doesn’t get used, or will that cause overcharging, overheating, etc.? Should the laptop be unplugged when the battery level is 100%? It won’t make all that much difference. What will shorten battery life is temperature: If it gets hot, it will shorten the battery life. Best thing to do, if you are able, is to remove the battery while you’re at home and keep it somewhere cool. If it’s a Li-ion battery, then they don’t like to be completely discharged, so make sure you charge them regularly. Wikipedia: Lithium-ion batteries should not be frequently discharged fully and recharged (“deep-cycled”), but this may be necessary after about every 30th recharge to recalibrate any electronic charge monitor (e.g. a battery meter). This allows the monitoring electronics to more accurately estimate battery charge. This has nothing to do with the memory effect. What about the “Remove the ...

How Often Should You Defrag Your Hard Drive?

Deciding how often to defrag your hard drive depends on how you use your computer. If you load, save and add to files on a regular basis, your system might require more frequent defragging than someone who only turns on their computer every few days. Most people should defrag their hard drives about once a month, but your computer might need it more frequently. Windows users can use the built-in disk defragmenter utility on their computers. Run a system scan, then follow the tool's device. It will tell you whether or not your hard drive requires defragging.

What to Do After a Hard Drive Crash

Computer hard drive crashes can be catastrophic. They can range in scope from a few corrupted files to everything on your computer, including your hardware. The casualty in these disasters is often data you would never be able to replace. In this situation, you could always reach for data recovery software, but luckily there are several options available that should satisfy your data recovery needs, such as: Data Recovery Step #1: Buy a New Hard Drive When you lose data during a hard drive crash, it typically means your hard drive—at least in part—is trashed. Moreover, although it’s often possible to get some hard drives working again, it’s best to start fresh with a new, more reliable hard drive, rather than continue risking more data loss. It’s understandable if you want to stick it out with the hard drive you’ve had for quite awhile, but the risk far outweighs the benefits in this situation. A new hard drive will likely have features that can help you stave off fur...

How Does Data Recovery Software Work?

Have you ever accidentally deleted a file on your computer, removed a file from your jump drive or even formatted a camera memory card? Or maybe you can t find your music collection after a system crash or a malware infection compromised your hard drive? Fortunately, the lost files and folders can often be recovered by using the best data recovery software. But how does data recovery software work? When you delete a file on your computer the first place it goes is to the recycle bin. Emptying the recycle bin makes the file far less accessible, but doesn t actually remove it. What really happens behind the scenes when you delete a file is that the computer s file system removes the path to access that file, and designates the space that the file is using as being available for future use when needed. The ones and zeros that make up the file are still there on your computer, hidden until they are overwritten with another file. Parts of the file may stay on your hard driv...
